lovely professional university (lpu) is a private institution located in chaheru, phagwara, punjab, india. founded in 2005 under the lovely professional university act, 2005 (punjab act 25 of 2005), it commenced operations in 2006. lpu is recognised and approved by several bodies, including the university grants commission (ugc), council of architecture (coa), association of indian universities (aiu), national council for teacher education (ncte), pharmacy council of india (pci), indian council of agricultural research (icar), the institution of engineers (india), institute of town planners, india (itpi), and bar council of india (bci). in its first naac accreditation cycle, lpu received an “a++” grade.
the university offers a wide range of programmes in fields such as business, fashion design, engineering, law, education, agriculture, humanities, and tourism. admission for most courses is based on the lpunest exam. lpu has introduced new courses such as the bachelor of social work (hons.) for a duration of 4 years, a diploma in child and elderly care, and a bsc in child and elderly care. lpunest is a national entrance and scholarship exam that evaluates academic performance for eligibility in various ug and pg programmes, offering scholarships up to rs. 9.52 lakhs. the exam has facilitated the admission of over 1 lakh students into more than 150 programmes, with 300+ test centres across india and over 8000 scholarships awarded based on lpunest performance.
additionally, lpu accepts exams like gate, nata, cuet, cat, xat, neet, among others. recently, lpu launched b.tech cse work-integrated programmes in collaboration with futurense, kalvium, and quantiphi. the university hosts over 30,000 students and employs 4,000 faculty members on its 600-acre campus, which features extensive amenities including hostels, transportation services, a university hospital, shopping and dining facilities, banking services, and well-stocked libraries. in the 2024 nirf rankings, lpu secured the 27th position overall.
